The Sanskrit word praan is a combination of two syllables, pra and na, and denotes constancy, a force in constant motion. Praan exists in living beings as the energy that drives every action, voluntary and involuntary, every thought, every level of the mind and body.

Praan shakti, the one sustaining force, assumes five fields to enable the body to accomplish its various functions. Thus praan is experienced differently in different parts of the body simultaneously. These five forces also act on subtler levels, influencing and in turn being influenced by the mind and consciousness. The ancient rishis identified these five praan as: praan, apana, samana, udana and vyana.

The five praans are also known as praan vayus. Each vayu moves in particular direction. For example, praan-upward direction, apana-downward direction, samana-towards centre from all direction, Udana-downward and upward direction, vyana- from centre to all direction .The term vayu is derived from the root va, meaning 'motion' or 'that which flows'. So the praan vayus represent the inherent quality of motion which energizes every action from secretion of the digestive juices to the movement of the hand.

Out of five vayu, praan shows its activity in thoracic region, apana – between navel and perineum navel, vyana-all the limbs , udana-brain and spinal cord and all extremities, samana-between thoracic and navel region. Anatomically, the major controlling centers of the body exist in the brain. The activity of praan vayu can be perceived in form of movements of cranial bones

Panchpraan chikitsa is holistic approach of treating health issues of human body by using ‘hands-on touch’ on different parts of the body. This touch releases blockages in praan vayus . The duration to releases these blockages depends on amount of blockage in pranic channels.

A Panchpraan chikitsa session could be between 45 minutes to an hour. Each person’s experience and response to the treatment is unique. The number of sessions required could vary depending on the severity of the condition. Most of the clients start feeling the difference immediately after the sessions.Others may need many more sessions over the course of a few months or even years. On an average, we would say you require at least 8 to 10 sessions over a period of 4 to 6 months.
In our experience, most people will return for sessions long after they are completely alright, to relax and rejuvenate themselves, enhance their sense of well-being and make sure they don’t fall ill.

The term that is used in Indian tradition is ; Praan vidya.

There are various Oriental systems of medicine such as acupuncture and Ayurved which have long appreciated the subtle movements which occur throughout the body, caused by the flow of vital force or life-energy.
Cranial manipulation has been practiced in India for centuries, and was also developed by the ancient Egyptians and members of the Paracus culture in Peru (2000 BC to 200 AD).
Furthermore, in the18th century, the philosopher and scientist Emmanuel Sweden borg described a rhythmic motion of the brain, stating that it moves with regular cycles of expansion and contraction.
This has also been traditionally taught in Russian physiology.Interestingly, anatomists in Italy in the early 1900s were already teaching that adult cranial sutures (joints in skull) do not fully fuse, but continue to permit small degrees of motion throughout life.
Dr.William Garner Sutherland, an osteopath discovered the motion in the cranial bones around 1920.Before 1920, Although most Western countries did not recognize motion occurring in skull bones, this possibility was not new to other cultures.
